The American Chemistry Council (ACC) recently honored Arkema Inc. with an Energy Efficiency Award with an “Exceptional Merit” award designation. This recognizes the company’s ambitious goals and measurable achievements in energy efficiency.

“We at Arkema are proud of our progress in energy savings, which are part of a far-reaching corporate social responsibility program,” said Rich Rowe, President & CEO, Arkema Inc. “We appreciate this honor from the ACC, which reflects our company-wide commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and meeting the sustainability expectations of our investors, customers and employees.”

Arkema’s award entry centered on the company’s “ArkEnergy” (Arkema Energy) program, which was established in 2013. ArkEnergy aims for a 12 percent improvement in energy efficiency by 2020. In the U.S., Arkema Inc. has considerably surpassed that goal, achieving a 17 percent improvement by 2018.

Arkema’s award submission cited results at the company’s plant in Beaumont, Texas, as an example of the accomplishments under this program.

“The Beaumont site’s energy efficiency improved by 3 percent in 2018 compared to 2017,” said Abdel Ramadane, the Energy Program Manager for Arkema in the Americas. “We also reduced total energy consumption by 1.8 percent, saved $227,000 in energy costs, and reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 3,014 metric tons and water consumption by 28,600 metric tons.”

“Chemistry is the science behind sustainability,” stated Cal Dooley, President and CEO of ACC, in a news release. “Our member companies are committed to creating innovative products and technologies that help society save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while improving performance in our own operations.”
